Akerman is a naturopath doctor (Alternative Medicine College of Canada) and specialist in traditional Chinese medicine by the Open International University. He is a regular contributor on radio and television on topics of natural health and he has been professor of Master in Natural Medicine, Faculty of Medicine - University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain.
Bachelor's degree in psychology and graduate of Behavior Therapy by ICE from the University Pontificia Comillas. He studied psychoanalysis in Institute of Neuroscience and Mental Health (Barcelona) and the University of Leon, and he has worked as teacher in the seminars clinical Psychoanalytic Studies of Galicia-Epga. He is internationally recognized clinical hypnotherapist and member of the International Society of Hypnotherapy..
